Extravagant Emu Egg Awards 2001

Emu eggs are unique in that they are actually three layers of color.  The innermost is white, then there is a lovely teal or light green, finally a dark green coat.  As the artist carves into the layers, he reveals these colors and utilizes them to give depth to his work.

"Canadian Maple Leaf Shower"
A scanned maple leaf was carved in various positions 
and sizes on this emu egg.  The egg is mounted on a maple burl.
The maple leaf is a symbol of Canada and a small Canadian flag is shown on the front of the egg.

" Paisley Freehand"
The artist has utilized all three layers of color in carving an allover 
paisley design on this emu egg.   Excellent texture in a basket of eggs or simply beautiful on its on.  Done with a dremel tool.
