Extravagant Emu Egg Awards 2002

Carved/Etched/Sculpted
Emu eggs are unique in that they are actually three layers of color.  The innermost is white, then there is a lovely teal or light green, finally a dark green coat.  As the artist carves into the layers, he reveals these colors and utilizes them to give depth to his work.  All artwork on these pages is copyrighted by both Emu's Zine (with rights reverting to the artist) and the artist creating the artwork.  This includes photographs of the artwork.  Contact the individual artists for permission before reproducing their artwork for any reason.

"In Memory of Our Savior"
The front of the egg is an etching of Christ on the Cross, with ivy leaves around the cross.  The artist used the natural coloring of the egg to enhance the contours and create contrast.  The back features a door cut out and lined with a rich burgundy satin and outlined with gold and white braid.  The inside of the egg is also completely lined with the same burgundy satin.  The lining was contoured by sewing in darts in a manner to fit the eggs interior.  The insert is a picture of the Garden of Gethsemane mounted in a scroll sawn and engraved frame.  The oval opening is also decorated with gold braid.
