Product Review

For years Dr. Michael Hall, a dentist in the beach resort town of Ocean City Maryland, had noticed a pattern to his patient's chronic chapped lips. In the summer, prolonged sun exposure desiccates delicate lip tissue. In the winter, freezing temperatures and low humidity, lead to the problem of rough, cracked lips.  Inspired by his active outdoor patients, local beach patrol, fire fighters, surfers, golfers, boaters, fishermen and hunters, Dr. Hall expanded his dental abilities from saving teeth to saving lips.

Dr. Hall surveyed patients with chapped lips to find that all were applying petroleum-based products without much success. In cases which exhibited deep fissured cracks, the petroleum based products seemed to exacerbate the problem.

"Petroleum is a barrier to the natural respiration of skin. This is the ability of skin to release toxins and absorb sunlight (important for vitamin D conversion). I was looking for something that would support my patient's healing without suffocating their skin.  Something to naturally replace what had been lost due to environmental exposure to sun, cold and low humidity.” stated Dr. Hall.

Research led to the discovery of Dromaius novaehollandiae (emu) oil.  This penetrating source of fatty acids necessary to skin health has been used in Australian Aboriginal medicine for thousands of years.  The combination of nourishing and transdermally penetrating properties gave Dr. Hall the idea of having his own all-natural product formulated with emu oil as the primary ingredient.

"Every effort was made to produce product that served as more than a lip gloss, but rather, as nutritional support for chapped lips.  In our experience, most cosmetic formulators are not set up for production of the all-natural petroleum free product we wanted to produce.   We searched until we found a company that was well versed in both medicinal herbs and natural product formulation to manufacture LIP SAVER TM, a blend of pure emu oil, beeswax, avocado, almond & aloe oils, lime, lavender and tea tree essential oils. " reports Alexandra Hall RDH.

Dr. Michael and Alexandra Hall own Outback Medic Survival Gear for Skin (R) the emu oil division of the Southern Cross Ranch. For further information Dr. Hall can be reached through his website, http://www.outbackmedic.com
