Quite possibly the last Easter egg ever designed by Fabergé has been found. The Blue Tsarevich Constellation Egg was found in its unfinished state at the Fersman Mineralogical Museum in Moscow. The egg is made of dark blue glass and engraved with the star constellation of the day of the Tsarevich’s birth and has a frosted rock crystal base. Reportedly the egg was in production for presentation to Alexandra Fedrovna but was never finished because of the abdication of the Tsar prior to Easter 1917. Tatiana Muntian, a curator at the Kremlin Armoury, verified the discovery by comparing the pieces to the original design, signed by Karl Fabergé through A. Kenneth Snowdon's book on Fabregé. The Fersman Mineralogical Museum has a collection of over 40 Fabergé pieces. |
