The cross was around long before Christianity. The cross design has been found among pagan tribes in Africa and Australia. However, it's a religious symbol on pysanky. The many crosses on this goose egg are of the Byzantine and St. Andrew styles. Also shown are the sun and stars, symbolizing life, fortune and growth.  The pine needles symbolize health, stamina and eternal youth.  The diamonds joining  or surrounding the stars and suns represent knowledge. 

The colors used in this pysanky are:

White for purity, innocence and birth

Brown for Strength, endurance and the eternal sun  

Yellow for Light, purity, youth, happiness and hospitality

Red for happiness in life, hope, passion and the sun
