From Australian artist Maureen Williams comes this salute to one of the most popular Mother Goose Rhymes ever written, The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe. "There was an old woman who lived in a shoe, she had so many children she didn't know what to do" This wonderful creation features not one, not two but three different eggs! The artist has used an emu egg for the toe and foot part of the boot and an ostrich egg for the heel. The ostrich egg has two floors, all areas are lit with 9 volt lights (with plug-in adaptor). The front of the boot opens to reveal the nursery with a quail egg cradle. The pitched roof features wooden shingles. The detailing is fantastic. It even has eyelets for the laces! Note the flower beds with the kitten playing in the front yard. The boot has a bit of a heel, so the artist has even provided our little old lady with steps leading to the front door - note the pots at the foot of the stairs.
The heel and toe of the boot are highlighted with olive green leather with black lacing on the top of the foot. The roof is shingled. Note the flower box under the upstairs bedroom window. The wall in the living room hinges down for better viewing.
The staircase can be seen on the right. Note the lace on the inside of the door frame as well as the detailing around the outside of the door frame, which is duplicated on the door itself. In the corner of the foyer to the right we see a plant. The room has furniture to scale. To the left (out of sight) is the doorway into the living room, pictured below.
Note the detailing in this room! The muted wall paper design, the table with flowers, door leading into the foyer to the right, and above the overhead light (which illuminates the sewing figurine) are all delightful touches. Note the delicate design of the nursery door to the left. Another angle of the room is shown in the next photo.
The door at the back is open and leads to the nursery (which is located in the toe of the shoe), where a quail egg cradle can just be seen. We can see the window curtains and inside gold edging in the lower left of the photo.
Not shown: The upstairs bedroom, which is carpeted, lighted and furnished. The Nursery, which is in the toe of the emu egg foot. The toe is hinged and lifts up to reveal the contents of the nursery. The roof does not come off, it houses the electrics. Available for $1,075.00 US from Diamond Innovations, email the Artist, Maureen Williams, for details on ordering.
