Vinegar & Candle Wax Eggs This project can be done with any egg but we are showing emu eggs because it's easier to photograph. This project should be done under adult supervision, and since it takes 5 hours or more to achieve results, other egg decorating projects can be done while the eggs are soaking. Start with a clean blown egg which you have filled with sand and plug the hole with wax.
Some of our "waxed" eggs waiting for the vinegar bath.
After you have finished with the vinegar bath, place the eggs in a pan in a warm oven to melt the wax. Do not leave the eggs unattended in the oven!
You can achieve some unusual designs with simple candle wax and vinegar, but another idea is to use dye instead of vinegar when working with white eggs such as chicken, duck, goose, rhea or ostrich eggs. |
